2009 Clare Senior Football Championship Relegation Semi Final Ballyvaughan 3:06 Shannon Gaels 1:12

Played @ Hennessey Memorial Park Milltown Malbay Saturday 26-09-2009 @ 15:45

A free from David Neylon deep in to injury time salvaged a draw for Shannon Gaels against Ballyvaughan in this relegation semi final played in Milltown Malbay.
Shannon Gaels got off to the best possible start in the first minute when Noel Kennedy pointed from play as the Gaels started faster and led by 1-3 to 0-1 after 10 minutes on the clock. The Shannon Gaels goal was score by David Neylon who continuously was a threat to the Ballyvaughan defence for the full 60 minutes.
Ballyvaughan had a two point lead at half time thanks to a brace of goals by midfielder James Hynes, Jason Mc Donagh was the first to open Ballyvaughan’s account with a score from a free, Phelim Kyne and Killian Mahon had points from play and McDonagh again scored from a free, the scoreboard probably did not reflect Ballyvaughan’s dominance in the first half as they only could manage a two point lead at the short whistle leading on a score line of 2.04 to 1.05 to the Gaels.

Jason Mc Donagh had a third goal shortly after the restart which increased Ballyvaughan’s lead to five points while the Gaels hit a good few wides and also miss kicked a few shots which fell short in to the goalkeeper’s hands. The second half was completely dominated by Shannon Gaels but a further two points from play one from Kevin Carrucan and the other from Jason Mc Donagh kept Ballyvaughan in touch. A late flurry of points from Eugene Flanagan, John Bermingham, Shane Tubridy and David Neylon free in injury time meant that the sides finished level and will have to meet again to see who plays St. Joseph's Doora Barefield in the relegation final.
