A hurling match with all the excitement and top class scoring was served up in the National Schools Division 6 final played at Cusack Park on a sunny summer day in June. It was in the second half the game took off to a flyer as a spirited come back from the home team took place and almost caught O'Callaghan's Mills napping after the owned the first half leading by 18 points at half time. Nathan Murray had helped himself to a personal tally of 4.01 while Ciaran and Gary Cooney scored points also to leave the half time score stand at 4.06 to 1.00 goal for Fanore / Ballyvaughan, this was increased to 5.07 at the start of the second half and the Mill's were only to score one more point until the end of the game.

The Fanore / Ballyvaughan fight back was led by the Queally brothers Ian and Philip, in an eight minute spell during the second half the twin's had scored 3.03 between them but the pressure applied was not enough to crack the mills defence totally as they held on for a 8 point victory.
