2008 Season Match Reviews:-

Senior B Football Championship Semi Final (Replay) @ Cooraclare .

Ballyvaughan 0.07 Lissycasey 0.09

The replay of this Senior B semi final took place under lights at Cooraclare, as two weeks previously these two sides finished all square in Quilty. Ballyvaughan found themselves on the back foot after Lissycasey were first out of the traps and raced in to a five points to no score lead. Scores were scarce and hard to come by for which Ballyvaughan only registered a single point in the opening 30 minutes of championship football. The half time score was Lissycasey 0.05 to Ballyvaughan 0.01.

Ballyvaughan’s second half performance improved and the fight back started with a couple of unanswered points from the boot of John Martyn, while Raymond and Kieran Casey were controlling the centre and keeping the Lissycasey attacks to a minimum.

Lissycasey finished the strongest and held out for a two point win only after getting the better of the exchanges in the final minutes, for which vetran forward Martin Daly scored a point from play and although Ballyvaughan battled hard in the closing stages they were unable to save the game.

Senior B Football Championship Semi Final (Draw) @ Quilty .

Ballyvaughan 1.06 Lissycasey 0.09

A place in the 2008 Senior B Football final was for up for grabs on this occasion but a draw was fair result served up by two very committed teams in very poor conditions in Pairc Naomh Mhuire Quilty.

A pitch inspection by referee John Brew before hand gave the game the go ahead, Lissycasey dictated most of the first half and had a one point advantage of leading 0.04 to 0.03 in injury time but Cian Walsh had the last say of the half when he took advantage of below par defending and drilled a low shot to the net giving Lissycasey's goal keeper Joe Hayes no chance. Half time score was 1.03 to 0.04 points

The second half began like the first when Lissycasey dominated most of the early exchanges but it took 13 minutes for them to get the first point of the half then two minutes later John Martyn restored Ballyvaughan's 2 point lead again with a point from play. The last 15 minutes Ballyvaughan defended brilliantly and it looked like Lissycasey Senior experience would pull them through as they out scored Ballyvaughan by 4 points to 1 with John McCormack raising the only white flag from play for Ballyvaughan.

As the game entered injury time Ballyvaughan were awarded a free from a good distance out straight in front of the posts and John Martyn converted to earn a draw and another day out.

Senior Football Championship Group 2 Round 3 @ Gleann Chiosog .

Ballyvaughan 1.05 Ennistymon 0.09

The local papers headline read Ennistymon best in Burren Battle, it was all or nothing for Ennistymon while a draw was enough to put Ballyvaughan through to the quarter final of the 2008 Senior Football Championship but on the night but it was not be. Ennistymon raced in to a 3 points to nil lead while Ballyvaughan's nervous start had to wait nearly 10 minutes for the opening score from play from Jason McDonagh. A free from Brian Conway from close in was converted for Ennistymon and Cian Walsh had a point from play left the half time score 0.04 to 0.02 in Ennistymon's favour and all to play for both teams in the second half.

Paul Darcy scored Ballyvaughan's goal after been introduced to the high tempo game, Brian Conway Ennistymon's most creative forward from general play and free taking was in fine form and got a score to level matters and one from a free which put Ennistymon back in front, John Martyn scored a point from play to leave the score entering injury time level on a score line of Ballyvaughan 1.05 to Ennistymon's 0.08. This looked like a fairy tale ending for the 2008 Championsip year and Ballyvaughan who had beaten Eire Og Ennis in Round 1 tried to hold on to secure a draw, but it was not to be. Substitute Jack Cagney was the hero of the hour with his injury time winner from play for Ennistymon.

Yet again not taken our goal chances when the came up seemed to be the most costly for us, Ennistymon's keeper Shane Keane kept them in the game for the hour with some top class saves. Brian Conway was the nights top scorer with 5 points (3 Play, 2 Free's), Ballyvaughan top scorer was John Martyn with 3 points (2 Play 1 Free) with Paul Darcy getting the games only goal.
